First Confirm Whether the Footage Contains Usable Metadata

Catalyst Browse can read clip metadata for stabilization processing. The software will mark clips that contain stabilization metadata on the thumbnail; if a clip does not have this mark, do not assume it can go through this workflow. Sony’s help documentation also points out that changing camera settings or removing the lens during recording does not support performing Catalyst stabilization on that clip.〔G-GYRO-01〕

SteadyShot Settings Depend on the Model

There is no universal rule that "all cameras must turn off in-body and lens stabilization." For example, for the Sony ZV-E10 II, the manual specifically recommends setting SteadyShot to Active or Off before shooting when using metadata stabilization with software like Catalyst. Other models may have different requirements; you should check the Catalyst metadata instructions for that specific model. Do not apply the settings of one model directly to another.〔G-GYRO-02〕

Preview Cropping and Correcting Boundaries

In Catalyst Browse, select marked clips, go to Adjust Clip, check the stabilization analysis results, then compare the footage before and after correction before exporting. Stabilization processing involves cropping; the software displays both the source resolution and the corrected cropped resolution. When manually setting the crop lower than the default value, footage with large shakes may show black borders. Therefore, the framing and edges should be confirmed in the preview, and "lossless" or completely jello-free results should not be promised.〔G-GYRO-03〕

Match Footage and Project Settings

If unexpected shaking occurs after correction, first check the frame rate and aspect ratio of the source clip and the timeline. Sony support notes that mismatches can cause stabilization anomalies and recommends keeping them consistent. For other brands, Gyroflow, or different versions of software, please consult their respective model compatibility lists and operating instructions. This guide does not generalize the Sony Catalyst process to a universal gyro algorithm.〔G-GYRO-04〕
