Features and Applicable Scenarios

The Sony α7R IV's Pixel Shift Multi Shoot records 4 or 16 RAW images, which are then combined by computer software to achieve a resolution higher than a single standard shot. Sony cites examples such as artworks or architecture with static subjects for this function; it is specific to certain models and cannot directly represent other brands or models.〔G-A7R4-PIXEL-01〕

Preparation Before Shooting

When shooting with Imaging Edge Remote, first set up the camera connection according to the α7R IV Help Guide and connect the camera to the computer, then launch Imaging Edge Remote on the computer; use a tripod to secure the camera. If you start Pixel Shift shooting directly on the camera, you can use a wireless remote or the self-timer function to reduce camera shake caused by pressing the shutter.〔G-A7R4-PIXEL-02〕

Subject Movement and Compositing Risks

Try to avoid camera shake and subject blur. Even if the main subject is stationary, nearby moving people or objects may change the subject's lighting, preventing multiple RAW images from being correctly combined. Therefore, first check the scene for moving objects and lighting changes before deciding whether to use multi-image compositing; Sony's manual does not guarantee that all moving objects can be automatically corrected by the algorithm.〔G-A7R4-PIXEL-03〕

Compositing Method and Recording Limitations

The α7R IV cannot composite this set of RAW files in-camera; follow the Help Guide to use Imaging Edge Viewer for compositing. This mode sets the file format to RAW, RAW type to uncompressed, and enables silent shooting; the mode does not support bulb (B) exposure and can only shoot in P/A/S/M modes. Refer to the current camera help guide for specific menus and software versions.〔G-A7R4-PIXEL-04〕
