The Nikon D850 manual describes white balance as a camera setting that avoids the color of the light source affecting the colors in your photos, and it recommends trying Auto for most light sources first. Setting the Color Temperature Value with the D850

The Nikon D850’s Choose color temp. allows selection from 2500–10,000 K. The manual notes: under fluorescent or flash lighting, directly selecting a color temperature may not yield ideal results, and it is recommended to choose the preset corresponding to the light source; for other light sources, take a test photo first to confirm whether the selected value is appropriate. Understanding the Two Adjustment Axes and Camera Operation

The D850’s color temperature menu allows adjustment along the amber–blue and green–magenta axes. The manual lists the steps to enter Choose color temp. through the Photo Shooting Menu; the camera’s U button combined with the sub-command dial is used to change the amber–blue axis. Please follow the instructions in your own camera manual and do not directly apply the D850 menu to other models.〔G-WBKEL-03〕
