Consider Rain Covers When Shooting Frequently in Rain or Snow

Nikon suggests that those who often shoot in rain or snow may consider commercially available camera rain covers. Before purchasing, check the compatibility of the rain cover with the specific camera body and lens, and do not interpret this suggestion as any equipment being waterproof.〔G-COVER-01〕

Temporary Covering and Surface Wiping

If there is no camera store during travel, Nikon mentions that a camera body can be temporarily covered with a plastic bag with a zipper or a shower cap, secured with rubber bands around the lens barrel while leaving an opening for the lens; carry a small towel to wipe the surface if the camera gets wet. Temporary coverings cannot replace the device's protection rating or dedicated rain covers, nor are they a solution for repairs after water enters the camera body.〔G-COVER-02〕〔G-COVER-03〕
