Complete Professional Camera Lens Cleaning Guidelines: Air Blower, Lens Paper, Microfiber Cloth, Lens Pen, and Prohibitions on Using Anhydrous Isopropanol

Eliminate the risk of mishandling tens of thousands of yuan worth of advanced nano-multilayer optical coatings: strictly prohibit wiping with clothing corners, blowing away dust with your mouth, and using medical alcohol to dissolve glue tragedies. Rigorously establish a 'blow first, sweep second, then wet wipe' three-step progressive physical cleaning SOP, detailing the folding stress of ultra-fine, high-density microfiber cloths, the oil absorption principle of carbon powder lens pens, and the professional optical isopropyl alcohol (IPA) evaporation control standards.

I. Three Major Destructive Folk Mistakes in Lens Wiping Habits

Many irreversible scratches on lens coatings are not caused by external scratches but by the owner “damaging” them themselves:

  1. Wiping directly with the hem of clothes or napkins (the most disastrous source of scratches):
    • Fibers in pure cotton clothes and rough wood-pulp napkins contain micron-sized airborne dust and quartz grit (quartz Mohs hardness 7, much higher than optical glass and multilayer fluorine coatings);
    • Wiping the lens directly with clothing is equivalent to using fine sandpaper to frantically grind a precision optical lens, instantly creating countless fine hairline scratches!
  2. Blowing dust with mouth (spitting and saliva corrosion):
    • Blowing with the mouth not only fails to remove deeply statically adhered fine sand particles but also splashes tiny droplets of saliva containing digestive enzymes, salt, and moisture onto the lens, which dry to form stubborn acidic white spots that are extremely hard to clean;
  3. Using 75% medical alcohol for wiping (dissolving adhesives and causing plastic cracks):
    • Medical alcohol contains 25% water, which evaporates very slowly and leaves severe water stains; high-concentration ethanol slightly swells the epoxy adhesive fixing the lens edges and the plastic decorative rings on the front group.

II. Professional Optical Cleaning Golden Trilogy (From Physical Contact-Free to Chemical Dissolution)

Must be strictly followed in order, without skipping steps:

  • Step 1: High-power single-direction air blower (contact-free dust removal):
    • Hold the lens facing down, repeatedly blow across the lens 10 times with a strong manual air blower, using high-speed airflow to blow away hard large quartz particles on the surface;
  • Step 2: Natural animal hair soft brush (gentle sweeping):
    • Use a degreased soft lens brush to gently sweep stubborn hairs and fine dust along the radius of the lens to the edges;
  • Step 3: Specialized optical cleaning liquid (wet wiping to dissolve grease):
    • Only use wet wiping if there are fingerprints or oil stains;
    • Drop 1 drop of high-purity anhydrous isopropyl alcohol optical cleaning fluid onto the tip of a brand-new microfiber folding cloth or disposable lint-free lens tissue;
    • Never drop the liquid directly onto the center of the lens! (The liquid can seep through lens gaps into the interior, causing the adhesive layer to crack!)

III. Concentric Circular Spiral Motion Standard for Wiping

  • Hold the slightly dampened fiber cloth at the corner with fingers, gently touch the center of the lens;
  • With constant gentle pressure, move outward in a concentric circular spiral from the center to the edges;
  • Carry the grease to the outermost edge circle by circle along the spiral, then switch to a dry cleaning cloth for finishing;
  • The entire process leaves no residual liquid on the lens, making it transparent and as good as new.
