Camera System Teleconverter Example: Magnification, Aperture Changes, and Compatibility Check

Use manufacturer information for Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Sony SEL14TC to explain the teleconverter magnification, light/aperture changes, and specific compatibility limitations; do not provide unsupported percentages of image quality loss, autofocus speed conclusions, or cross-system universal compatibility lists.

Teleconverter Magnification and Aperture Changes Must Be Checked Against Manufacturer Systems

The focal length magnification, aperture change, and compatible lenses of a teleconverter should be based on the information provided by the corresponding manufacturer and model. Nikon labels the Z TC-1.4x / TC-2.0x as 1.4× / 2×, respectively, and notes potential light loss or sharpness degradation; this does not constitute a compatibility guarantee for any lens.〔G-TC-01〕〔G-TC-02〕

Official Light Transmission Data Is Specific to Products

Nikon indicates that their Z TC-1.4x / TC-2.0x lose 1 stop / 2 stops of light, respectively. Canon notes that the maximum aperture of RF1.4x / RF2x is reduced by 1 stop / 2 stops. Sony indicates the SEL14TC loses approximately 1 stop of light. Descriptions on different pages refer to their respective products and should not be used to infer unlisted combinations.〔G-TC-03〕〔G-TC-04〕〔G-TC-06〕

Use Explicit Model Examples to Illustrate Limitations

Canon specifies that the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM can only be used with the RF Extender in the 300–500mm focal length range. This limitation is a specific example for that model combination and cannot be generalized to other RF lenses.〔G-TC-05〕

Check Accurate Model Compatibility Information Before Mounting

First, confirm the teleconverter model, the full lens model, and the camera body, then consult the corresponding manual or manufacturer compatibility tool. Nikon explicitly recommends confirming with the lens manual; Sony provides a camera-lens compatibility tool. Compatibility and capabilities such as AF, VR/OSS, and usable focal range should be verified for each combination. This guide does not provide collision warnings, general AF speed reduction, or image quality loss percentages without manufacturer support.〔G-TC-02〕〔G-TC-06〕
