Physical troubleshooting and lubrication of a film camera's mechanical self-timer mechanism jam causing the shutter curtain to fail to release

The mechanical selfie machine is essentially a highly sophisticated microscopic mechanical clockwork clockwork mechanism (Clockwork Escapement):

If you encounter a stuck Selfie, remember to never press the shutter button down with force with your fingers**! This will directly bend the weak internal release rocker arm, causing an irreparable internal fracture.

1. First level: extremely gentle external force (Manual Assistance):

• Place the camera on a flat table;
• Place the thumb pad against the stuck selfie lever, and apply an extremely slight, continuous and steady auxiliary push in the direction of its original movement (the force should not exceed the force required to push open a postcard);
• While pushing slightly, shake the body gently. The weak external force is often enough to overcome the maximum static friction of the aging sludge. The gears make a crisp "tat-tat-tat" sound again, the journey is completed smoothly, and the shutter is released crisply to revive!

2. Second stage: body vibration and gentle heating with hair dryer:

• If it doesn't move when pushed by hand, adjust the household hair dryer to "low temperature setting (about 40°C, avoid high temperatures that may burn the lens coating and reflector)";
• Blow air into the gap at the root of the selfie lever to heat it for 30-60 seconds;
• The heat will quickly soften the solidified animal lubricating oil, causing its viscosity to drop sharply; with the palm of your hand gently tapping the base of the fuselage, the spring will often unblock and finish automatically in an instant.

3. Complete standard procedure (SOP) for sludge cleaning and minimal relubrication

After getting out of trouble, if you don't clean it thoroughly, the next time you move it, it will get stuck again:

1. Penetrating cleaning with very small amounts of volatile solvents:

• Use professional Swiss Moebius 9010 synthetic watch oil, dip a very fine copper wire into a droplet of less than 0.1 mm on the tip of the escapement wheel shaft, and the mechanism can resume running like silk for decades.
